Sub Surge explores the simulation of swarming behaviour in real time and its application as a main game mechanic. As a sluggish deep sea creature, the player explores an unfamiliar sea and comes across some peculiar creatures that seem to follow the players commands. Helping them to explore the environment by drilling through brittle rocks and augmenting their speed. The bigger the swarm, the faster the player can move.
A work in progress game prototype. The player creature can attract and repel the swarm, as well as send individuals towards its facing direction. The swarm can drill through certain objects.
My main focus so far was the swarm simulation, the swarm's interaction with the environment, as well as the player controller and how the player can interact with the swarm.
